Why I shoot Boudoir Photography

Why Boudoir Photography?

I get asked pretty often why I shoot boudoir. Unlike any other photography I’ve done, boudoir is about helping women with their self-acceptance, positive body image, and art! Not just getting glammed up but also laughing together. It’s the transformation that happens from the time you walk into my studio and walk back out the door. It’s about feeling beautiful and confident and that is something I believe every woman deserves.

I started shooting boudoir photography because I see the beautiful in other woman that they struggle to see in themselves. I knew I could show anyone that same thing through my lens, this is why I show images on back of the camera during sessions! Seeing client’s reactions to their photos, constantly confirms that I am on the right path in life. I live for making others see themselves, I mean REALLY see themselves!

It is my job to be a mirror for my clients. Not the mirror that you shame yourself in but the one that zooms out away past the cellulite, bruises, and imperfections. The one that shows you your sparkle.

The Transformation

The transformations that take place in our studio is the best part of the whole experience for us. When a woman arrives in my studio, most of the time she’s nervous, sometimes even visibly nervous. Shaky hands and voices, sweaty hands and faces are things I see all the time. Once they sit in the chair to get their hair and makeup done, the transformation begins. Our clients slowly start to shed those signs and feelings of nervousness and anxiousness.

Then the shoot starts. The set is to get you all warmed up. When I show the client the back of the camera during the first set, I usually hear “OH MY GOD, that’s me? NO WAY that’s me!”. As we go into the next set and then the next, the laughter and smiles start to come out.  Then she starts to feel sexy. Then sexy eyes come out and you can tell that it’s starting to click with them.

By the time we finish the session, we’re friends. We’ve just shared an experience that we both will always remember. We’ve laughed and shared stories about our lives.

Once I show clients their images at their reveal session, their jaws drop... LITERALLY. They see themselves like they never have before. This is one of the amazing thing about boudoir photography. I get a chance to show them how I see them, how their significant other sees them and be their “mirror”. When we’ve finished selecting the image for their album and wall prints, they are smiling so big and they can’t wait to tell all their friends about what they just did!

A little piece of my story.

Through out my late teens and early twenty’s I modeled for varies photographers and product/fashion campaigns in New York City. Most of the sessions were male photographers giving no direction and often they wanted to hang out after the session in a very unprofessional capacity. I would HATE the process but love the images after which is why I modeled for so long. In 2012 I purchased a professional camera and took classes to learn how to use it. My mission was to show every woman that she deserved a beautiful image of herself. I knew I could demonstate posing while providing a safe and professional experience lightyears beyond what I had over the years. Fast forward to 2023 and I’m still as obsessed with my mission as when I started!

I photograph over a hundred women a year and to make sure that I practice what I preach, I still book my own boudoir session every year. I choose a different photographer to help support the industry but also to feel the nerves of going to someone I don't know yet. Every morning on my own session I think why am I doing another session I have so many things I should be doing. It always boils down to taking the time to celebrate your body, the one that carried you through another year. I take pride in being able to help show women how to celebrate their bodies, their battles and their victories they’ve been through. Let me show you your sparkle. Let me help remind you how to love and be proud yourself.

That’s me from a few different boudoir shoots over the years!
